1. What architectural style are your houses?

s s
The houses are post-Victorian and rural in nature. One is Greek revival. All are early 20th century era American homes. They all have large porches, clapboard siding and many windows. They are not ornate but more simple and straightforward

2. What are the layouts like?

s s

They are mixed. Most of the houses have three bedrooms and two and a half baths. There is one two-bedroom and one with a four bedroom option. Some have the master bedroom down with two others upstairs. Others have two bedrooms down and a master suite upstairs. Still others have all bedrooms upstairs. All of the homes have fireplaces.

3. What is your favorite house?

s s

The personal favorite of Gordon Cross, president of The Parkersville Collection, is Huck Smith's Farmhouse. It looks like a simple cottage from the front yet it has over 3000 sq. ft. of living space and features a spectacular cathedral ceiling library with a wraparound staircase. The surprise effect of that room is quite dramatic. Six of these houses were built in one compact area. The favorite of most observers, from the outside, is Katherine Mizel's Country House. The many trees surrounding it made photography difficult but the overall proportions of the house are just right.

4. Do they really look old when they are finished?

s s

Yes. They are indistinguishable from houses built 75 to 100 years ago on the exterior. Key components are the right windows with the right trim, soffit and eave detailing, porches and railing, and siding material. If one element is off then the whole thing misses. And often, a miss is as good as a mile.

5. How flexible are the plans?

s s

Very flexible. Many people have modified our plans. At $480 it's cheaper to get one of our plans that has a "look" you like, then add your own touches, than it is to start from scratch with an architect or designer. Gerry Cowart, AIA, helped develop our plans and he has modified them for many of our customers. He can be reached at 912-236-1372 or gcowart@cowartgroup.com.
